Cairnmuir is situated just over 2 miles from Ferrycroft Visitors Centre & Information Point.
Lairg in an important rural centre, being home to the UK’s largest one-day sheep sale. It is also archaeologically significant in the Highlands. The story of the areas prehistoric people and their role in shaping the landscape is told at the Ferrycroft Visitors Centre. The Ord Archaeological Train takes you to some of the best prehistoric sites including chambered cairns dating from around 3000 BC.
Cairnmuir offers an ideal location for touring, walking, pony trekking, bird watching or simply relaxing. Fishing and boating are available at Loch Shin and there are five excellent golf courses within a 20 mile radius.
Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring the Northern Highlands, John O’Groats, the northernmost point of the mainland, is reachable by road in about three hours and there are many interesting towns and visitor attractions along the way.
